Post Honeymoon celebration

If you have a friend or family member that just got married and are about to come home from their honeymoon, giving a wine basket is a great idea. What a pleasant surprise it would be to find out that a wine basket filled with an excellent bottle of wine, chocolate almonds, cheese as well as crackers is waiting at the door step. It is a good symbolic gift that expresses you wish for them to have a very happy and fruitful life as a married couple.

Reminiscing old times

Do you have someone in mind that you rarely see? Don't let this situation hamper your relationship with this person. Send a wine basket with a theme that is close to both your hearts. Distance shouldn't hinder you from remembering someone that you consider to be special in your life.

Busy schedules

Are you always on the run and you feel that you no longer spend enough time with your special someone? No matter how hectic you are right now, spending a few minutes to send your partner a bottle of wine to remind this person how much he or she means to you is a golden opportunity to re-affirm your love.

Proud and fulfilled

Wine is a fitting way to express your pride and fulfillment over an accomplishment or that of someone that is very dear to you. A great way to celebrate the present and look toward the future with optimism and resolve.

These are some of the themes that you can incorporate into your very own design. Don't limit yourself to conventional ideas, use your imagination and creativity to come up with something that is truly unique and special. There is nothing better than giving a gift to someone special that you designed yourself. That person will appreciate your gift all the more since it is one of a kind and truly a labor of love on your part.

Using about a yard and a half of surgical rubber tubing or plastic tubing, siphoning is a very simple operation. First, put the bottles or jars of wine on a table and the empty bottles on a stool or box on the floor. Next, put one end of the tubing in the first bottle of wine and suck the other end of the tube until the wine comes; pinch the tube at your lips and - holding on tight - put this end in the empty bottle and then let the wine flow. As the level of the wine falls, lower the tube into it, being careful not to let it touch the lees. When nearly all of the wine has been transferred, pinch the tube at the neck of both bottles, put one end into the next bottle and allow the wine to flow again.

If you store big red wines properly for a decade or five, some will age to perfection, with aromas of roses and flavors of caramel, tea, licorice, nuts, even wild game. Others will just grow old, fruit gone, bitter tannin remaining.

After Zin, Comes New Zealand Vin

Unfortunately, my sweet suite at the Wine Bloggers Conference at the Flamingo Hotel in Santa Rosa was going to charge me to get on line so I poured myself a glass of Mauritson’s Rockpile 2006 Zin (which I liked even better than the reserve–not as “fruity” but more cherry and better structure and balance and depth), grabbed my MacBook Pro and some crackers, and wandered back into the lobby which had quieted down significantly save for the music blasting “Brick House” from the bar. I used the code

Steak & Cab

On the plate: A rib-eye steak from a grass-fed, pasture-raised all-organic bovine. I marinated the steak in red wine and garlic for an hour and grilled it outside over hardwood charcoal, about five minutes on the first side and four minutes on the second, so it came out a rosy medium-rare. Wow, it was scrumptious, with that perfect balance that great steaks have of ripe, fleshy meatiness (or beefness) with succulent texture and earthy minerality. Hey, sounds like a great cabernet!
